Admission Requirements

 

Graduation from an accredited college or university or its equivalent with at least one year of physics, calculus and chemistry.

 

Satisfactory GPA. The university minimum undergraduate GPA is 2.7 on a 4.0 scale for at least the last two years of undergraduate work.

 

Satisfactory scores from the GRE (must be current, less than five years old).

 

Three letters of recommendation.

 

Satisfactory score on the TOEFL exam (for international students only). The university minimum TOEFL score requirement is 550 (paper-based) and 213 (computer-based). Scores must be current (within two years).

Admission Procedures Domestic Students

 

Complete the online graduate school application. Submit a one-page personal statement describing your career goals and how a degree in nanoscience and nanotechnology would help you meet those goals. Include prior work or life experience that relates to your interest in nano and any other information that you think will help in the evaluation of your application. Submit official transcripts (no photocopies) from all colleges and universities attended. Submit three letters of recommendation. Letters must be in sealed envelopes or sent directly by the person writing the letter to the address listed below. Submit official General (required) GRE score. International Students

 

Complete the International Application for Graduate Admission form [PDF]. Submit a one-page personal statement describing your career goals and how a degree in nanoscience and nanotechnology would help you meet those goals. Include prior work or life experience that relates to your interest in nano and any other information that you think will help in the evaluation of your application. Submit official or officially certified copies of all grade reports for all secondary and higher school studies, as well as original or officially certified copies of all academic diplomas, certificates, and national or other major examination results. Official records must be submitted in the native language and must be accompanied by an official English translation. Submit three letters of recommendation. Letters must be in sealed envelopes or sent directly by the person writing the letter to the address listed below. Submit official General (required) GRE scores and TOEFL scores (no photocopies). Submit a Financial Statement [PDF]. Include a check or money order in the amount of $50 made payable to Virginia Commonwealth University.
